Droid Eris Release Date Update

I have contacted both Verizon and HTC regarding the 2.1 release date, as I have done several times in the past.  As I had anticipated, I received the same ‘no answer’ update from HTC.  They stated:

Due to marketing agreements with the US carriers we do not have information on if and when a update will be released. If a carrier request us publish this information you will hear first on our community and twitter broadcasts.

So they blamed the communication issues on Verizon…again.  Verizon neglected to respond to my inquiry via email.  I contacted a couple of local Verizon stores, and they all said the same thing:

I would say the update is coming in April – although I would take that as a ‘personal’ estimate on when the update will be released.  I have not seen any exact dates come through our company email, but the people I have spoken to internally all feel strongly about the April date.

They all went on to state that they appreciated my business and patience and that they assume everyone would rather wait a couple more weeks than to accept a buggy version now.  Although most would probably agree, it can be very frustrating to continue to wait for what seems like a never ending delay for an update that we all hope will come soon.

  1. Still nothing yet, but they’re right. We should hold on until they get the bugs worked out and theyre 100% sure its ready.

Besides I’m actually quite comfortable with 1.5 on my Eris until then anyway, its very usable and so far does what I need…blast this laggy keyboard!

  2. Hurry up and release it already! The HTC Droid Incredible is being released and it has 2.1. What fairness is that for people who have already purchased the Eris. I think the next 2 years will be my last with Verizon, sick of the slowness and un-reliable information.

  3. I think that it is unrealistic to think that companies will ever treat us fairly and with respect. Let the buyer beware is the mantra of the decade we are in. Smart phones are getting faster and more complicated by the month.

I find it funny that Apple is advertising the Iphone 3g for $99 dollars (8 gig). Why in the world would anyone want it when the 3gs is much better.

I own an Eris and think it is great. The Incredible sounds even better and comes out only months after I purchased the Eris. I am not going to hold my breath thinking that Verizon will give me a special cross grade price on it. I may ask but I am not expecting them to do anything.

I had my old Samsung flip phone for over two years and was just as happy with it at the end as I was from the beginning. It did what it was supposed to do—answer calls and send calls. In a third world country it would probably be still a great phone.

Once I entered the “smart phone” category, can I expect any of these phones to really be current in two years—most likely not.
