Earlier this month, TechCrunch reported that Facebook is working on their own mobile device. The project won’t be ready until next year and will be powered by the Android Operating system with a highly customized user interface. Joe Hewitt (who helped to create the FireFox browser and created all of Facebook‘s iPhone web and native apps) and Matthew Papakipos (who led project development for Google‘s Chrome OS until June) are rumored to be working on the project.

Palm released an update to their Facebook for Palm app (webOS 1.3) earlier this week. Most of the updates were driven by user request and include features like selectable feeds, comments in the feed, photo tagging, landscape mode, clearing multiple notifications, and performance enhancements. Google announced the acquisition of Slide, a social technology company with a history of building ways for people to connect across platforms online. “Slide has already created compelling social experiences for tens of millions of people across many platforms, and we’ve already built strong social elements into products like Gmail, Docs, Blogger, Picasa, and YouTube,” stated David Glazer, Engineering Director at Google. Facebook acknowledged that the recent update to their Android application (v1.3) contained a bug that drained device batteries. Their release stated that “a number of you have commented on seeing a battery drain on your device since installing the new Facebook for Android app. We have identified the bug that is causing the battery drain…as soon as the patch is ready, we will push out an update.” Hopefully this release will be better than the last…
