According to a report from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), online advertising achieved its highest Q1 revenue level ever in 2010; with revenues in the US growing to roughly $5.9 billion – represented a 7.5% increase year over year. David Silverman, PwC Assurance Partner, stated that these results are a “sign of health and vitality of online media, and of marketers’ continuing investment in interactive as a cornerstone of their advertising campaigns.” (via IAB)
AOL has launched a beta version a self-service ad tool that will enable marketers to launch and manage their own campaigns. This application, dubbed “Ad Desk,” will sell CPM advertisements that can be targeted by Website, category, geographic location, demographic, and behavior.

Twitter announced its new program, dubbed Promoted Tweets, which will be the company’s first attempt at monetizing the network. Advertisers will be able to purchase keywords and have their ads displayed in targeted user search results. It’s still unclear how much companies are willing to pay to join this new advertising program. Twitter‘s current model will be based on a CPM until they have more time to evaluate the program.

Schaaf Consulting announced last week that it acquired PartnerCentric, Inc. The combined company will create one of the largest outsourced program management (OPM) companies. The two companies already manage many of the top-performing affiliate programs, including the eBay Partner Network, Constant Contact, and Quicken Loans.
