Google Planning to Axe Agency Fees

Google is planning to kill their agency fees, which have historically been charged to agencies to utilize it’s search platform and suite of APIs.  The change is thought to encourage smaller advertisers to adopt the company’s analytics, tools, and exchange.  Penry Price, Google VP of Agency Development, stated that many agencies have been frustrated that Google has been charging for use of their APIs, and “we want to remove a disincentive to innovation.” (via AdAge)

AOL Launches Ad Desk

AOL Launches Ad Desk

AOL has launched a beta version a self-service ad tool that will enable marketers to launch and manage their own campaigns.  This application, dubbed “Ad Desk,” will sell CPM advertisements that can be targeted by Website, category, geographic location, demographic, and behavior.

Google Launches Google Places

Google updated their Local Business Center to the new Google Places on April 20th.  Place Pages will “connect people to information from the the best sources across the web, displaying photos, reviews and essential facts, as well as real-time updates and offers from business owners,” stated John Hanke, VP Google Maps, Earth and Local.

Bing Shopping Updates

Bing released a few updates to Bing Shopping this month to “help you research and find what you’re looking for more quickly.”  Some of the updates include a list of product categories on the left, which lead to a drill down to various other categories in the catalog.  After you finally find the product you’re looking for, you can view product details, where to buy, user reviews, cashback, and more.
