Skype for Android – Now with Video

Skype recently announced that it’s updated Android application supports video calling on select devices.  The app also sports a new UI – with new menu, profile access, and much more.

The app requires Android 2.3 or higher and a front facing camera for video chat.  In addition, only the Sony Ericsson Xperia and the Google Nexus S are supported video chat devices at this time.  Additional support is expected for more devices in the future.

The HTC Thunderbolt was supposed to ship with a new and improved version of Skype that would allow users to video chat from their mobile device.  Unfortunately, it didn’t happen and it left many users extremely disappointed.

Skype Introduces Desktop Ad Units

Skype will soon add advertisements to their Windows desktop application.  The ads will be introduced in the US, UK, and Germany this week, and will appear on the Skype desktop Home Tab.  Companies like Groupon, Universal Pictures, and Visa are among the advertisers that will begin running at launch.

Skype Acquires Qik

Skype Acquires Qik

Skype announced the acquisition of Qik, a mobile video software and service company yesterday.  Qik currently offers solutions for Android OS, iOS, and Symbian platforms.  Source close to the matter state that the deal was worth roughly $100 million.  Read more from the official release below.  (via Skype)
