The IRS put tens of thousands of social security numbers on the internet for anyone and everyone to see earlier this month.

The mistake happened when the agency tried to upload records on the non-profit industry and someone forgot to redact the thousands of identifying numbers. The error was spotted by public.resource.org and the numbers have since been removed, but it’s uncertain who viewed the data before the error was corrected.
