On April 1st, Yahoo! announced changes to their Sports Search and News Search; featuring a new layout, handy new filtering tools, related search suggestions and rich results that “help you find what you’re looking for quickly and seamlessly.”
One of the new updates to the Sports Search results page is the left column. It allows users to explore the latest news, scores, photos, and videos without having to search the regular listings. Another new feature is Related Searches, which “features conceptually related topics.” This update allows users to find information about their favorite team, information on their team’s main rivals, other professional teams in the area, or the other team’s fan networks.
They also added sports results in the top of the page. This will allow users to quickly keep up with latest scores / updates with simple searches (similar to how most search for stock quotes through a standard Google search. This update, however, provides much more than basic information and a link. You can view scores, schedules, brackets, nets, and coverage all from the updated top section.
